$20.14

Melissa Shulman ’14 was on the host committee for a networking event in New York City that celebrated the renaming of the UNC School of Media and Journalism in summer 2015. It turned out she couldn’t attend, but she wanted to make a contribution anyway.

“I thought it was important that recent graduates were able to attend free of cost to meet fellow Tar Heels in the Big Apple,” Shulman said. “I believe that the Carolina network, especially those who have graduated from the School of Media and Journalism, are always looking out for their fellow Tar Heels, and this event was a great way to meet new people.

“The reason I chose to donate $20.14 was because, as a 2014 senior class marshal, that was the amount we encouraged our classmates to donate, so I thought it was quite fitting for my first donation as an alumna.”
