“Having worked in a large, global organization for my entire career, I am a strong believer that a great university needs to have outstanding global capabilities and a mission to prepare its students to compete in the global world we all live in.”

A diverse, global mindset is essential to success in today’s society. With a gift from alumni Bill and Anne Harrison of Greenwich, Connecticut, Carolina will continue to strengthen its global presence and advance global development programs for students. Proposed programs include:

• The Global Guarantee, which will make it possible for students, regardless of their financial background, to have an global learning experience during their time at Carolina;
• The Carolina Global Seed Fund that will allow students, faculty and staff to supercharge collaborations that influence and shape the University’s global aspirations;
• The Global Impact Accelerator that will speed up the time it takes to get solutions and programming developed at Carolina implemented in communities in North Carolina and around the world.

The $10 million gift continues the Harrisons’ record of supporting global initiatives at Carolina. In 2007, Bill chaired the Global Leadership Circle, which developed the University’s first comprehensive global road map. In 2009, the Harrisons made a $1 million gift creating the University’s Global Research Institute to generate knowledge solving real-world problems, such as water quality and the impact of globalization on North Carolina’s economy.
