Bringing Home the Gold

“Awards are not the single measure of quality,” said Susan King, dean of the UNC School of Media and Journalism. “But consistent performance and excellence over time… demonstrate that our culture attracts and develops leaders who will invent the future of media.”

The school recently won the 2019 Hearst Journalism Awards intercollegiate national championship. The Hearst win is known as “the Pulitzers of college journalism” and encompasses excellence in broadcast, multimedia, photojournalism and writing categories.

The win marks eight total Hearst championships for the school and its fourth in the past five years — the most of any accredited journalism program in the country.
