Building on a Legacy

To continue attracting and developing the best student-athletes, we must have state-of-the-art facilities that enable us to stay ahead of current athletic and training demands.

In 1999, the UNC women’s field hockey team, led by Coach Karen Shelton, made Francis E. Henry Stadium its home. Nearly two decades later, Coach Shelton has produced six national championships, more than 30 All-Americans and hundreds of student-athletes who continue to pursue greatness in all they do. And they’re just getting started. Coach Shelton and the team are moving into a new stadium made possible through the generosity of Rams Club members.

Coach Shelton said, “Carolina strives to give our student-athletes everything they need to succeed—academic support, a great student experience, outstanding facilities. The new field hockey facility seeks to help them achieve the high level of success for which Carolina is known. We need the help from those who believe that is an important endeavor.”

To continue the legacy, we have recently upgraded facilities for 19 of our 28 teams; with your continued support, we can improve and advance the infrastructure we need to compete at a championship level in the decades to come.
