Building Toward Excellence

For our 7,000-plus alumni, no building on campus better encapsulates their education than Beard Hall. Since opening in 1959, it has been home to countless classes, research endeavors and transformative learning experiences. Nancy Bryson ’60 and Vaughn Bryson ’60 are a testament to that. The Brysons were among the first pharmacy students to study in Beard Hall. Their time in what was then a modern building gave them the utmost appreciation for quality facilities.

“Our graduating class moved into Beard Hall for most of our senior year, and the more contemporary classrooms and labs were a welcome change from Howell Hall,” Vaughn said. “The innovative use of technology in teaching requires an updating of the classrooms, as well as the necessity of more modern laboratories. We were proud to support the transformation of Beard Hall to enable the school to continue to flourish.”

A revolution is under way in higher education.

Technology is changing the way we teach and learn and our Educational Renaissance is leading the way. We are creating new instructional methods, classroom techniques and virtual training platforms to help graduates better serve patients, excel in their research and lead in the arenas where healthcare decisions are made.

By changing the way faculty members and students interact, we have deepened the impact of classroom time as we develop critical thinkers, problem solvers and leaders. Beard Hall was ideal for the needs of students and faculty when it opened in 1960, but it has been left behind by profound changes in instruction and inquiry. Reinvigorating Beard Hall will continue to enhance the student learning experience by providing collaborative spaces, interactive classrooms and modern labs.
