Combining Interests

Noah Legall ’18 spent his years at Carolina looking for ways to combine his interests in biology and computer science. The former Chancellor’s Science Scholar landed on quantitative biology and spent four years exploring research topics with UNC School of Medicine faculty.

Now he is pursuing a Ph.D. at the University of Georgia’s Institute of Bioinformatics, where he uses computer science, math, and statistics to analyze biological data – specifically, bacteria. He expects to complete his graduate work later this year and recently accepted an internship at renowned bioinformatics company Illumina, which applies innovative technologies to genetic analysis.
