Curing AIDS

“The time is now. The field is ready for new advances toward curing HIV,” said Dr. Myron Cohen, director of the UNC Institute for Global Health & Infectious Diseases.

UNC has long been recognized for its work in preventing and treating HIV, but with a landmark collaboration with GSK, the University will accelerate research to cure HIV/AIDS.

Together, the HIV Cure center and Qura Therapeutics, a new jointly-owned company that will handle the business side of the partnership, will work to eradicate HIV worldwide.

“Once industry invests in a problem, it catalyzes reactions that are predictable and unpredictable,” said Cohen. “I am really sure that the partnership will lead to visible, demonstrable, important changes in the way we treat HIV infection.”
