Environmental Careers with Impact

North Carolina is a prime spot for students interested in the environment, and together the UNC College of Arts & Sciences and UNC Institute for the Environment are making this even more true.

The College’s recently launched Environment, Ecology and Energy Program (nicknamed E³P) will develop stronger alliances with social sciences and humanities departments in the College as well as Carolina’s professional schools. The program emphasizes experiential education opportunities such as service learning, study abroad and field site work, building upon current partnerships with the Institute for the Environment in the Triangle, Outer Banks, Morehead City, the N.C. Highlands, Thailand and the Galapagos.

“There is a huge clean tech presence in the Research Triangle Park area,” said Greg Gangi, teaching associate professor in E³P and associate director for education at the UNC Institute for the Environment. “Students should see RTP as a potential career destination — they no longer have to go to New York, D.C. or California. What I hear from students today is: ‘I want a career with impact.'”
