Rediscovering Frankenstein’s Monster

When Carolina undergraduates showed up for the first day of English 295, “Reconstructing Frankenstein’s Monster,” many were expecting a typical English class. They would read the book, analyze it and perhaps look at other versions. Instead, the nine students in professor Jeanne Moskal’s honors-level course would devote their spring 2018 semester to researching and curating a full-scale exhibition in the Wilson Special Collections Library. The result, “Reconstructing Frankenstein’s Monster: Mary Shelley’s World in Print,” gave undergraduates the chance to go deep in research, use Carolina’s rare book collection and offer a new look at an old monster.
