Virtual Learning Makes a Real Impact

“Being the best business school in the future looks nothing like it is now,” said Douglas A. Shackelford, dean of UNC Kenan-Flagler. “The more we can maximize the use of technology to link intellectual experiences with emotional ones, the greater the impact on our students’ education — and their lives.”

UNC Kenan-Flagler Business School is changing the learning landscape through emerging technologies, including virtual reality. In March 2017, UNC Kenan-Flagler faculty members David Hofmann and Steven King traveled with M.B.A. ’18 student Tanyi Fuoching to his home country of Cameroon.

The mission: to get footage for a ground-breaking business simulation in which students will make a series of decisions as part of their assignment to set up a new health-care outpost in a foreign country. Meaning that a tricky endeavor which was previously hindered by geography and politics can now be a part of every student’s learning experience.
