Me and the Music

A clarinet player and aspiring playwright, Ryan Phillips ’24 graduates this May 2024 with degrees in music and English. Ryan was awarded a Kenan Music Scholarship, the premier scholarship of the UNC Department of Music, awarded to four incoming students each year. As Ryan prepares for his senior recital and the production of his play, he shares how the Kenan Music Scholarship helped him navigate his passions and interests at Carolina.

The Kenan Music Scholarship was endowed by the William R. Kenan, Jr. Charitable Trust. Thomas S. Kenan III ’59, trustee of the Kenan Charitable Trust, was awarded the Lux Libertas Philanthropy Award at the Kenan Music Scholars recital on March 3, 2024.
