Living her dream in Asia

“I think of my life as a rock climbing experience and the Fulbright was the next handhold I could see that was in my grasp.”

Asheville native, first-generation college student and Carolina Covenant Scholar Sarah Muscutt ’15 knew she wanted to go to college in-state, but her aspirations have taken her halfway around the world. She took several semesters of Japanese courses at Carolina, found new passions and changed her major to Asian studies. After she graduated, she traveled to South Korea—her first trip outside of the U.S.—as a Department of State Critical Language Scholarship recipient. Then she defined her next peak to climb—a Fulbright U.S. Student Program Scholarship—teaching English in South Korea. Her time at Carolina helped her to get there.
